Where it started

Six months after their first training session, the Zanzibar Sparks played in France.

In 2023 there was no girls' football team in Zanzibar. WEZA started one. Six months later the Sparks represented the island at the Mondial Pupilles youth tournament. Today they are one of six teams, and this season the first girls' league in Zanzibar's history kicks off.

Eight teams. Monthly match days with professional referees. A bus from every village and a meal for every girl. Season tournament in spring 2027.

WEZA's first permanent home at Dunga Kiembeni: a pitch, training rooms and a volunteer house, run on solar and rainwater with a permaculture field feeding the girls.
